Part I: Select a Learning CommunityApprox. 750 words

A written report that outlines a selected learning community that you will be joining as a participant to further extend your e-Learning experiences.

Your report will address the following topics:

·        Your view on the nature of a learning community (supported by readings and discussions with other students)

·        Describe the nature and focus of the selected community

·        Explain how you recognise the e-community as a learning community

·        Why might it be of value to your experiences in this subject?

·        Describe your expectations as a learner/participant in this community

 The report will be presented as a separate, static page on the student’s weblog. Written academic standards, including appropriate referencing (UTS Harvard style and hyperlinks to online works); clear and logical development of ideas and argument; appropriate language style and; grammatical and spelling accuracy will be expected.

Part II: Analysis of selected learning community

Approx. 1000 – 1500 words

A written report that describes and analyses your experiences as a learner/participant in your selected learning community (outlined in Part I).

The report will address the following issues:

·        A concise description of the community – including the technological environment, and the participants

·        A description of the learning events/activities occurring in that community

·        A description and analysis of your role as a learner/participant in the learning activities

·        An analysis of the community as a vehicle for learning


What aspects of the community’s structure or function support (or hinder) learning?

·        Your interpretation of your experiences in relation to your research and readings on learning communities.

 

Part I: Learning Community Design (Group task)

In small groups you will be required to integrate the experiences, models and concepts from the subject to design a model for an e-Learning community.
The design will outline the following sections:

  • A brief outline of the key features of the e-Learning community
  • A justification for considering the proposed e-Learning community as a collective learning opportunity
  • Educational rationale for the design elements, informed by your experiences in communities and readings in this subject
  • A storyboard or blueprint that represents the e-Learning community design in sufficient detail that the structure and functions are clearly apparent.

The group work component will be presented on wiki where it will be explicit which aspects of work each group participant has contributed to. Part II: Learning Community Design (Individual task)

Approx. 1000 words
A written reflection of the group process in Part I that addresses the following:

  • A description and analysis of the group learning process
  • Synthesis of readings and research from this subject
  • A reflection of how this process can further inform your experiences of learning communities
